The budget for 2022-23 is currently scheduled to be handed down on Tuesday, 29th March 2022.
The Budget and Federal Election Timing 2022
If the Government intends to hold a normal House of Representatives and half-Senate federal election, it must be held no later than 21 May 2022.
If the Budget is delivered on 29th March 2022 as currently proposed, in the most likely scenario there are 3 possible election dates, being the 7th, 14th and 21st of May 2022.
For Bill watchers, an election on 14th or 21st May would potentially allow the March and April parliamentary sitting periods to go ahead, and that would be the last window of opportunity for the passage of legislation in the current parliament.
