The ATO is the Federal Government’s principal revenue collection agency, and is part of the Treasurer’s portfolio. Their role is to manage and shape tax, excise and superannuation systems that fund services for Australians.
The Taxpayer’s Charter
The Taxpayers’ Charter is the client service charter of the Australian Taxation Office. The charter sets out what you can expect when dealing with the ATO, and deals with:
- your rights
- your obligations
- what you can do if you’re not satisfied.
The ATO also sets service standards and reports on their achievements against these.
